Here’s One Way to Say

Performance cart (PA speaker, mixer, microphone, umbrella, chair, folder with autograph pages, and electricity source plugin), costume dress, voice, church bells; 2009

Farmington Maine is a quaint New England town that sees a few thousand visitors every year. The local community is difficult to penetrate and all residents born outside the state are known as “from away”. For decades the town has been investing in its image as a little hamlet. The face of the town is built of simulacra associated with older times. I decided to formally introduce myself to the town by singing along with the digital bell tower that plays twice a day. I dressed appropriately, trying to match the town in style, and performed using a homemade PA system.
