It Was An Hour Before Irene and I Remembered This Time

Captured video, superimposed music tracks “Keep On the Sunny Side” by the Carter Family and “It Must Have Been Love” by Roxette, found television, reclaimed wood from felled barns; 2011

As I sat waiting for hurricane Irene to hit, I noticed the wind rotating the fanblades in my window fan. In moments like these, the only time that seems exist is the coming hour ahead. Time and space seem to collapse into the short time span of the critical moment. By layering songs from two very different eras and two very different cultures, I have collapsed time and space in this video work. The television is embedded in old barn wood that was gathered from felled barns after the passing of Irene.
